How Wonder Woman Changed My Life

Wonder Woman is the most famous heroine of all time. The full package of beauty, brains and brawn, she’s been a feminist icon since her star spangled intro in 1941. Wonder Woman is Princess Diana of the immortal Amazons from Greek mythology. Known for her superhuman strength and speed, as well as her trademark bullet proof bracelets and her Golden Lasso of Truth. Torn between a mission to promote peace and her own warrior upbringing, Wonder Woman fights evil while hoping to unlock the potential of a humanity she doesn’t always understand.

This weekend marks the two year anniversary of my blog launch. We had such a fun party to celebrate what, at that time, was a BIG DEAL to me. Surrounded by good friends, I felt so much love and support. What some may not know is how much fear I had to overcome in order to get there.

I will never forget how it all began. In a small restaurant on Berkley campus, over a warm chocolate chip pecan cookie. The conversation was around how unhappy I was at work. I was feeling chewed up and burnt out. Just four months earlier my father had passed away and all I had done at work since then was massive reorganizations and layoffs.

At that point I had an idea for a book that I would one day write. I said, “I really should start writing my book but it seems so overwhelming; I am not really sure where to start.” That was when a very dear friend, who has always believed in me more than I believe in myself said, “You should start a blog.” He said it in such a matter of fact way, like it was no big deal. I can still remember the feelings I had. Immediate FEAR which lead to a bunch of reasons why I couldn’t do that. I am not technical enough. I do not read blogs. I do not know where to begin. He clearly knew I could do it and as a result became frustrated with me. As the conversation became uncomfortable I shut it down.

Four months later I launched my blog!

What changed?

On the flight home from California I started to wonder. In the wonder my creative mind took over. Interestingly enough, my first idea or name for the blog was Wonder Woman. Another stop on that California trip was at a costume shop in Sacramento where I saw my favourite costume of all time, Wonder Woman.

I have not yet, but promise all of you reading that I WILL wear that costume ONE DAY!

Some interesting notes on this page read:

Wonder woman is my journey of trying to put Superhuman aside just long enough to wonder….

…Wonder what life would feel like if I found balance

….Wonder how alive I could feel if I could define and live my purpose

For some, this may sound like a cake walk. But for anyone who knows this Wonder Woman, knows loosening the tightly gripped knuckles from the ledge of control and achievement is no small feat.

Is it a coincidence that I found this sheet today on the two year anniversary of my blog launch and after fully embracing vulnerability by sharing my story? Of course not! There are no such thing as coincidences.

I have overcome all of my fears relating to the above declared wonder statements which are now reality. Should I give my myself a pat on the back and be done?

Hell NO!

Now I have a new opportunity to create more balance, passion and abundance in my life!! It’s time to create the next chapter of my life! So in the spirit of letting go of fear and the little voice inside my head that thinks people might say, “who does she think she is?’ I am declaring what I am now wondering about.

…I wonder how it will feel to be a published best-selling author

…I wonder how it will feel to be an international professional speaker

…I wonder how it will feel to be in a loving, committed relationship with the one
