Back to School

It is that time of year – Back to School! I have always had mixed feelings about this time of the year. On one hand I find it quite hectic trying to return to the pace of getting the kids back to school and all of their activities. Trying to remember what time to have child number one or two somewhere depending on what day of the week it is and then the added anxiety of remembering the correct time to pick them up each day. Then there are back to school meetings, forms to fill out, postdated cheques to write, new teachers to meet and the annual checklist review – school uniform shirts – check, school supplies – check, lunch kits – check, new ballet tights – check. Of course, not having everything perfect and ready for day one would make a mother feel like a failure.

This year I have made a conscious choice  to focus on the other part of Back to School that I enjoy and be more loving and kind with myself and go with the flow, adjusting to the new change in pace and schedule.  The thing that makes September stressful is the change; a change of pace and a change of schedule.  But with these changes also comes a fresh new start – sort of a Happy New Year – just 9 months into the year. This is the part I love, along with crisp cooler air and the beautiful colours of fall.

Because of the annual Back to School rituals we have all taken part in for many years, we have been programmed to intuitively feel like September is a fresh new start. As adults, we may not have a new teacher or a new classroom but we certainly have the opportunity to make this a new start. One where we can consider important questions like – what do I want to accomplish between now and the end of the year? How can I enhance my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self? What behaviours are no longer serving me can I commit to letting go of? How can I take better care of myself?

So take some time and think about how you will consciously create the rest of the year. Rather than let the hectic pace of adjusting to the fall season make you feel like you are just keeping up, make an intention to enjoy this time. Let go of beating yourself up if you forget something as you learn and adjust to your new schedule. And create! Create some meaningful weeks and months ahead. Last but not least, enjoy some of the rituals and traditions of Back to School for yourself. Go out and buy yourself one or two items for your fall wardrobe. You deserve it!

And speaking of deserving it…you deserve to invest some time into your own development and peace of mind! You should consider the YOU GLOW GIRL! 90 Days to Balance, Passion & Abundance on line coaching series. I designed it for women JUST like you who are too busy to leave the house and need their learning in short video segments to complete between the other 12 things on your list of things to do!! I also priced it crazy low at $49.99 so YOU can do this for yourself now!! Let’s do it! http://bit.ly/90daysglow

    • Good to hear Corina. This September is even a bigger fresh start for you – make it awesome! I am SUPER proud of you!!

  1. Diane, I really enjoyed this blog. Of course intuitively I know all of these things – BUT they get pushed to the back burner with all the hub-ub of the new year. Thank-you for the reminder to slow down, enjoy a new positive start to a wonderful year and ‘create the intention to enjoy this time’!

  2. I love this time of year. And although the no school thing is really a bummer, maybe it will turn out to be a blessing in some way??! Not sure what yet though!!!

    • We are making lemonade from these strike lemons. On line courses that will free up 5th period so she can start dance earlier and avoid a teacher she did not care for so much last year. Living outside the box Baby!!
