We hear it all the time, “There is no “I” in TEAM.”
When leading teams the focus is on a shared vision, results and the development of the individuals that we lead. Leading and developing winning teams has personally been the most rewarding and biggest honour of my career and community involvement to date.
However, in the past year I have had the experience that has asked me to step up and play in a different league – entrepreneurship. The safety of the corporate world where I was an expert; the go to person with over 20 years’ experience in my field is no longer my reality.
As an entrepreneur with less than a year under my belt, I am a complete rookie!
As someone who loves people, loves collaboration, loves connection, sitting at the dining room table having Monday Action Meetings alone is not overly fulfilling; nor does it assist me in learning what I need to do in my new reality. As a result I have come to learn the value of my tribe and continue to build it with people that are helping me bring my purpose to life.
When I envision a tribe I see a circle and in the middle of that circle is me – the “I.” Each person surrounding me brings wisdom, experience, direction and guidance to assist me in achieving my purpose – to help people create meaningful balance in their lives by stepping up and consciously creating the lives their hearts desire. By developing my tribe, my less than a year rookie level knowledge is actually the combined wisdom and expertise of many.
And let me tell you my tribe is pretty kick ass so that, my friends is pretty powerful!
Leaders often do two things. First, they feel that as the leader they need to know it all on their own. Secondly they place all their focus on their teams and forget about developing themselves and building their own tribe.
You can go from good leader to kick ass exceptional leader just by building your tribe.
No matter how many years of experience in your field or your industry there is always room for growth and more importantly, MUCH room for inspiration!
To be exceptional you have to take care of your most precious resource – YOU! So get out there and claim your “I” by building your Tribe!
