I am a Jewelry Stylist, Makeup Artist and Interior Designer residing in beautiful, picturesque White Rock, BC. I spent many years working in the field as a colour specialist for a large paint company and had a lot of success, but I wanted more! I am also an artist, writer, jewelry stylist, dance enthusiast, reality-TV-watcher, kid-chauffeur, part-time chef and most importantly, a mother to two girls and a wife to my supportive husband. I switched careers when my kids got to school-age, and started a new venture working as a makeup artist. I have loved collaborating on photoshoots and discovered that writing is also a passion of mine! Now that my girls are teens, they also love creating ‘pretty things’ – art, photography and styling – and I try to include them as much as I can in my work. I have been an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot for almost 6 years and my girls often assist me at my trunk shows too. I am passionate about inspiring people – whatever form that it takes!
What has been YOUR biggest challenge or life obstacle that YOU feel has dimmed YOUR GLOW?
I had a rather large failure when I left my corporate job and first started as a makeup artist. I opened my own boutique which was everything that I thought that I wanted. However, it was largely a financial mistake and a huge burden to have to be there everyday, staff it and keep up with loads of inventory! It took my husband and I almost 5 years to recover financially and it took a toll on my self-esteem and filled me with guilt for burdening my family with the financial hardship. Only now almost 6 years later, can I look back and see that I learned a lot about business and myself in the process.
How have YOU grown as a woman in the last year? What lessons, insights or ah-ha moments have you had?
This past year has been one of immense growth! I have always stuck by notion of keeping people in my life at all costs, because I am an independent business woman and I felt that I needed everyone’s support. I never wanted to upset anyone, for fear of losing potential ‘future business’, be it friends, past customers or people that work with me. Even Facebook friends! The big learning I had this year was that some people are actually toxic and holding me back. I have had to Bless and Release a number of people in my life – and I feel better and stronger for it! Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever. Accept them for their time in your life and move on. It was a huge A-ha moment for me and I credit Diane for helping me along in that process.
What else do YOU want to share with the YOU GLOW GIRL!® Community?
I am going forward with gusto for the remainder of 2014 and beyond – I have started writing a book! I am taking my experiences in Direct Sales and forming them into a What-I-Wish-I-Would-Have-Known-Manual for others wanting to start a new career or part-time venture in Direct Sales. I am also working on expanding my new Etsy shop, my Youtube Channel, becoming a stronger affiliate marketer and trying to pay it forward with lessons on my blog. I am fulfilling my passions for Inspiring people by sharing as I dig my heels into my Act II of life!
