Glow Girl! Jamie Khau

Jamie

What is YOUR story? Who are YOU? What is YOUR life journey all about?

I grew up with a family of three sisters in Vancouver, B.C. My mother is Chinese and my father is Italian and Scottish. I have three daughters ages 12, 8, and 3 and an incredible, supportive husband. I love spending time with my family and friends, writing, hiking, running, and reading. I especially love socializing and connecting with like-minded women. My background is in Early Childhood Education, and I currently blog, write for online publications and volunteer. My life journey is about creating a life that feels good on the inside. I’m an advocate for mental well-being and I truly believe that doing the inner work to feel good within, is the key to finding happiness. I’m also very passionate about creating a confident, kind, next generation.

What has been YOUR biggest challenge or life obstacle that YOU feel has dimmed YOUR GLOW?

One of my biggest life obstacles was struggling with my self-confidence as a child. I carried a lot of anger, self-hate, self-doubt and fear within me. This resulted in mild anxiety and led to depression as a teenager. It was hard for me to articulate the emotions and pain I was going through and sadly, some days I would take it out on others. My lack of self-love and negative self-concept, led me to make some decisions that afterwards made me feel guilty and ashamed. As my self-esteem continued on a downward spiral, it was challenging to feel happiness within. I played sports, and read self-help books in my mid teens, got a part-time job and slowly the depression went away and I began to love myself. I had my first daughter a few months shy of turning twenty years old, most would think it was a huge challenge, being such a young age, and some days it was. However, having her has taught me so many valuable life lessons that I would have never learned on my own. Some would think being a young parent, dims your glow. In my case, becoming a young mother, helped me shine!

How have YOU grown as a woman in the last year? What lessons, insights or ah-ha moments have you had?

This past year, I have grown exponentially! My growth was largely due to my courage. When I let go of some of my self-limiting beliefs and fears, I made room for new experiences. Last year, I started my online blog, www.stylingtheinside.com where I began to go back to my inner girl, who loved to write. I began to authentically, share my life stories and experiences and writing them was very therapeutic. I found my passion, by going back in time, and following the dreams I once had as a young girl-to write and to somehow inspire. When people say I inspire them , I think to myself, all I’m doing is being myself, and writing from the heart. And this is where the ah-ha moment comes into place. “Being yourself!” -Ah-ha!! That is what is inspiring.
