What’s Your Song?

1526813_10152144219018007_663918133_n[1]It’s a New Year and with that comes many articles and posts on New Year’s resolutions and how to achieve your goals. Check my archives for some of those. This year I have seen some less traditional ones that I have enjoyed like – What’s your word?  A word or mantra for the year allows you to focus on a result or way of being that can help re-engage or center you when you reach obstacles along the way.

But today I want to kick it up a notch!

Because achieving your resolutions or your goals is exciting! They should be celebrated. Getting there does not have to be hard and grueling. Yes, usually it is a challenge; however, you can make the challenge fun.

As a leader I am well known for having an annual team song. Some have rolled their eyes and thought there was no place for such antics in the business world, but obviously I disagree. If sports teams can have kick ass inspirational songs to pump them up before each game, why doesn’t that translate to overcoming challenges off the field?  I have news for the eye rollers – It does!!

Pumped up people on or off the field perform at their highest level.

Music touches us at a deeper level; a heart and soul level. Engagement at this deeper level ensures commitment to the vision and solidifies winning outcomes.

The interesting thing about having a song is that when you are feeling beat up or worn down you can just que up your song on your iPod and all of the sudden you feel a million times better. You feel relieved and better yet, you feel inspired. You get back out there and get back to work to turn your goals into reality.

Let’s do it!

Take a few minutes and center yourself. Close your eyes. Think about a resolution or goal you are currently working on. When do you hope to achieve it by? Go to that date in your mind’s eye. What are you wearing on that day? What is the weather like? Who is around you? How do you feel knowing that you have achieved your goal? Look into the mirror and see the big smile on your face; what does it look like? What type of emotions are you feeling knowing that you have won?

Now – what song are you going to do your DANCE OF JOY to in celebration of what YOU accomplished?

My 2014 song is Burn by Ellie Goulding! What is yours? I would love to know, please share it by commenting below. You might inspire someone else that is having a hard time finding their song.

“We, we don’t have to worry bout nothing
Cause we got the fire, and we’re burning one hell of a something
They, they gonna see us from outer space, outer space
Light it up, like we’re the stars of the human race, human race

When the lights turned down, they don’t know what they heard
Strike the match, play it loud, giving love to the world
We’ll be raising our hands, shining up to the sky
Cause we got the fire, fire, fire, yeah we got the fire fire fire”
