Moments

It is hard to believe – we have only six weeks left in 2012. I bet you are already doing the math. That means I have 30 work days, which means I only have about 300 hours. Can I finish everything on my list of things to do this year? Or if you are proactive you are likely already looking ahead to 2013. What are your priorities and non-negotiable deliverables for the upcoming year?

High performers tend to measure life by accomplishments. I am guessing you could provide me a list of all of the fabulous accomplishments you have achieved this year. This is not necessarily a bad thing and certainly adds value to our organizations and our own self-esteem; however it may not add to the meaning we are often in search of.

Here’s the thing about accomplishments. Once they are completed and checked off our list we may feel satisfied and even proud, but something inside of us still yearns for more. So what do we do? We move to the next thing on our list. Perhaps when we accomplish the next thing we will feel more fulfilled. That is our hope.

To feel fulfilled we need to broaden our scope. We need to shift from just accomplishments and consider moments. It is the moments in life – good, bad, happy or sad that make us who we are. When we have a deeper appreciation of who we are, it leads us to becoming truly authentic leaders.

Take a few minutes and reflect back upon the year. What are your 2012 Moments? I have provided you with a list of mine to get you started. As we head into the holiday season and the last few weeks of the year be conscious of opportunities to add to your list of moments. I promise you will feel more fulfilled.

  1. Another awesome post. Reminds me of all the times i have seen you in action. No matter how many we were you always had our full attention. I have learned so much from you over the years. I have admired you since the day i met you. Now that i live on the otherside of the world i miss your speeches (whatever the occasion)and our talks. I love the blog and as usual you give me plenty to think about and the courage to face and change difficult situations. You have a way with words that seem to always make a person feel better about themselves!
Keep up the great work. I am so proud of you. You are a strong, compassionate, caring, outgoing and beautiful women on the inside and out. I am happy you have finally found a great way to really make a difference in other people’s lives. I know your Dad would be proud. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors as i know this is just the beginning of bigger and better things to come!
Wish you could speak Norwegian so i could hire you to talk to my staff of nurses and caregivers:-) Maybe i will just have to borrow some of your material to help them enrich their lives as well, both at work and at home:-)
